I dropped a coin in the wishing well It's been a long time dry I watched that ol' Greyhound bus kick up dust As it rolls on by I asked the man in the station He said man just take a look around We haven't had a train through here Since it all came tumblin' down Tumblin' down come tumblin’down Tumblin' down come tumblin’down Tumblin' down come tumblin’come tumblin’ Come tumblin' down I'm not a drinkin' man no more But this one night I got lost I've never been much of a dancer But this night I surely was I made it out to the cottonwoods Slept with my ear down to the ground And in my dreams I could hear the screams As it all came tumblin' down Tumblin' down come tumblin’down Tumblin' down come tumblin’down Tumblin' down come tumblin’come tumblin’ Come tumblin' down The corridors are all empty And there's a child sitting on the stairs She's seen everything there is to see And somehow she still cares We took a ride on the ferris wheel Built from glass and steel and such Now it's melting in the sun And it's not worth all that much Tumblin' down I raise my hands up to the sky Tumblin' down As we climb to higher ground Tumblin' down Let's just keep on dancing Tumblin' down Until it all comes tumblin' down Tumblin' down come tumblin’down Tumblin' down come tumblin’down Tumblin' down come tumblin’come tumblin’ Come tumblin' down

Secret Love (Colin Hay/Michael Georgiades) Colin Hay Music (APRA/ASCAP)/Old Canyon Music (ASCAP) As my heart comes beckoning Towards a day of reckoning I would give up anything To not remember everything About when I saw you And I knew you were my Secret love secret love You pass by almost every day I struggle to find the words to say I'm living in my own prison of war My heart won't be silent anymore I may not recover Since I discovered my Secret love secret love I can't live without you knowing What I’ve been keeping inside My love's overflowing and won't be denied Can no longer hide I tried walking away my fear I tried to make it disappear It follows and shadows me everywhere Sometimes I wish I didn't care But I’m not a pretender I have to surrender to my Secret love secret love I can't live without you knowing What I’ve been keeping inside My love's overflowing and won't be denied Can no longer hide Who can say and who can tell This feeling that I know oh so well You and I we may never be But my love will last an eternity And we'll be together Now and forever in Secret love secret love Secret love secret love

When the sun comes up over Paris It's like any other day Except that you're in Paris What more need I say I climbed the Eiffel Tower So I could touch the sky I took almost an hour And I can sure see why And you give me a thousand million reasons why we're not alone And you give me a thousand million seasons where life goes on and on and on and on I woke up here in heaven Floating round the sun I count down from eleven All the way to one And you give me a thousand million reasons why we're not alone And you give me a thousand million seasons where life goes on and on And in this world truth be told We're the lucky ones And if we find someone to love until we fade away into the rise and fall of each and every night and day Together we’ll breathe into the wind And you give me a thousand million reasons why we're not alone And you give me a thousand million seasons where life goes on and on and on and on And you give me a thousand million reasons why we're not alone And you give me a thousand million seasons where life goes on and on and on and on And on and on and on and on……..

The Best in Me (Colin Hay/Michael Georgiades) Colin Hay Music (APRA/ASCAP)/Old Canyon Music (ASCAP) At breaking of the light I see it all so clear My darkness will disappear As I push you away from here And you wait so patiently To bring out the best in me Shadows in the night Danger is all I know So difficult to let go If I close my eyes and breathe Gets easier to believe And you bring out the best in me I keep walking out and meet myself walking back in And time's not on my side You keep on believing I will finally arrive and I will realize I can no longer fight So tenderly as we go No swimming against the tide Letting go of my worthless pride In your reflection I can see That you bring out the best in me I keep walking out and meet myself walking back in And time's not on my side You keep on believing I will finally arrive and I will realize So take another ride And I will hold you near We cast away all our fear and I want you to know That you help set me free And you bring out the best in me Yeah you help set me free And you bring out the best in me

I was born some time ago In this very room There's many who have come and gone There may be one more soon Seasons come and seasons go Some talking in between I'm lookin' through the window now At all that I have been Someone is singin' some crazy song On the paint stained radio My hands they are wringin' as I gaze upon These frozen fields of snow My father was a violent man He died in '63 My mother broke her silence then And she looked after me We dug a deep well for water She told me water makes you free She lost her only daughter Her name was Mary-Lee They called me up and threw me in And there I lost my heart I forget where I have bin Till I wake up in the dark I heard a voice saying You're going home As my blood began to flow My mama was calling and beckoning From the frozen fields of snow Somethin' out there's goin' to ground Lying under open skies Birds of prey come swoopin' down Pickin' at their eyes Springtime is comin' and it's none too soon It's time for me to let it go I can see color green poking through Through these frozen fields of snow My secrets are whispering in this fading light I have killed and I have loved Time it will decide

Standing alone trying to talk on the phone I opened my mouth there was no one home I always knew what I wanted to say Then I felt the tap on the shoulder It was fierce mercy Telling me to take it slow Or I’ll be the last to know I remembered the time was around '89 I can still see you and your hand in mine You broke free you walked away from me Then I felt the air getting colder And it was fierce mercy You're going to have to let me go Or I’ll be the last to know Don't blink an eye or look the other way Mercy comes to visit you should let her stay It may happen on any given day Don't be the last to know I kept my cards close played a winnin' hand Drove the lost highway through the desert land Came out of nowhere in a fast sunrise There it lay before me and I recognized that It was fierce mercy Telling me to take it slow Or I’ll be the last to know It was fierce mercy Telling me to take it slow It was fierce mercy Telling me to take it slow Or I’ll be the last Yeah I’ll be the last Yeah I’ll be the last To know Don't be the last to know

You tell me you were born today In the year of '97 What was it like back in my day As I go swimming in your eyes Here take this number down Call me when you wake up I will come around And we can spend the day And I’m going to get you stoned Like it's 1967 I'm going to get you stoned When here on earth it felt like heaven But then the hammer it came down Nothing changed except the season They even took away his crown He took it back and won the day Turn this ship around We're taking on way too much water We're about to run aground Can't steer the ship without a rudder So I’m going to get you stoned Like it's 1967 I'm going to get you stoned When here on earth it felt like heaven And I’m still dreaming So don't wake me up This life is so fleeting There's nowhere near enough We're all doin' time I can hear it tickin' while I’m talkin' Not living is the crime I squeeze it each and every day Well I must be on my way I'm still running chasing dollars It's just a habit now I’d say It sure beats lying in the sun I'm going to get you stoned Like it's 1967 Yeah I’m going to get you stoned When we could see the doors of heaven

I’m walking here walking here Don’t mean you no harm I’m just walking here walking here Yeah some say we glorify Nah we tell the facts Walk a peaceful path but Still get harassed Stray rounds Makes kids wanna duck down And run when the muffler backs fires Like a gun sound Cops crooks capers Oh my wish I had a cape To soar above the sky Not have to worry if my homies gonna die Neighbors eyes all dry Y’all no tears left to cry All I am and all I’ll ever be You stole my life away from under me For all time and all eternity Broken hearts for evermore Hey I’m walking here I’m walking here I don’t mean you no harm I’m just walking here just walking here I don’t mean you no harm Souls still linger From buried bodies that lie in the cemetery Too many its getting heavy to carry Minds weary & eyes teary Please God hear me and steer humanity away from all this insanity Feels like we’re cursed And the situations are getting worse Love is the water And the people are dying of thirst Make my heart burst Numb to the hurt and the pain There’s a war in the streets And every city's the same All I am and all I’ll ever be You stole my life away from under me For all time and all eternity Broken hearts for evermore Hey I’m walking here walking here I don’t mean you no harm I’m just walking here walking here don’t mean you no harm All i am and all I’ll ever be You stole my life away from under me For all time and all eternity Broken hearts for evermore Hey I’m walking here walking here I don’t mean you no harm I’m just walking here walking here don’t mean you no harm

Two Friends 04:21
I had two friends that died last week Seven days apart I’ve got twice the memories Weighing down my heart Weighing down my heart Somehow it don’t seem right That they lost the race I’m staring out across the canyon Trying not to feel the space Trying not to feel the space Carry on my brothers my brothers carry on Carry on my brothers my brothers carry on I had two friends that died last week They left us all behind They’ll go on in memory And we’ll go on in time Yeah we’ll go on in time What I feel is emptiness It’ll fade over time I guess Sometimes there’s a price to pay for love And we’ll just carry on With the promise of a brighter dawn There is no greater gift than love Carry on my brothers my brothers carry on Carry on my brothers my brothers carry on Carry on my brothers my brothers carry on Carry on my brothers my brothers carry on………

She was the love of mine and I held her hand in mine She has the mercy like the rising of the sea She opened my eyes to wonder In my wandering eyes I held her In this moment her soul became a part of me Mother of mine you are the light that always shines Into the world you let me see She was the love of mine and we We had the best of times We watched the ships sail at the fading of the day She wore the color green and she talked of the things she'd seen Now only love remains when all has come and gone Mother of mine you are the light that always shines Into the world you let me see Mother of mine you are the light that always shines Now i carry you as you carried me She was the love of mine and I held her hand in mine

Sometimes I don't even know my name Don't ask me why 'cause I can't explain It's just one of those things Small gains that I am making Become such an undertaking I'm inside outside in Well everything used to be so clear But lately things just seem to disappear Into the atmosphere One day I’m almost certain The next day I draw the curtain I'm inside outside And when I call no one's listening I cannot be heard And if I fall who would miss me And who can I find to forgive me And lord knows how much I need it now Inside outside outside in Inside outside outside in I'm in the car I’m driving But I’m never seen arriving I'm inside outside in One love forever's never been my game Sooner or later it ends up the same Or so it goes I never seem to learn If I get too close I’ll still burn I'm inside outside in I'm inside outside in I'm inside outside in

Some say time stands still in blue bay moon Even the tide's too late or comes too soon I recall what someone told me That was long before me Now it's just a distant memory I walked around this town of mystery With only loneliness for company And I wondered in windy silence as I stood upon the dune The night I saw lights over blue bay moon No one knows the way to blue bay moon All the signs came down in the great monsoon Then came a great occasion A grand illumination Shining lights that were brighter than the sun I tried to talk to my own family They just rolled their eyes and smiled at me As I stumbled through the darkness I remembered in the gloom The night I saw lights over blue bay moon I tried walking out on blue bay moon But I cried right thru my dreams I was consumed And if nobody ever believes me The lights will never leave me I will always know I’m the only one Now I’m walking through my own history With only loneliness for company And I wonder in windy silence as I stand upon the dune The night I saw lights over blue bay moon The night I saw lights over blue bay moon The night I saw lights over blue bay moon Blue bay moon .....

Well I had the fantasy As I held you close to me I could take away your sadness I thought you were kidding me Turns out you were leaving me Saying love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough You said you believed in me That's how it would always be Then you walked into the darkness Now I sit by candlelight Long into the lonely night Love don't mean enough Yeah love don't mean enough Round and round Here we go again I'm talking myself down I heard a sound A whisper softly saying Love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough When life has no certainty I stick to the melody In certain tricky situations Sometimes it worries me And sometimes it don't bother me When love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough I find myself thinking of sweet Cinderella And how she really had it tough How all the sisters they tried to tell her That love don't mean enough That love don't mean enough Round and round Here we go again I'm talking myself down I heard a sound A whisper softly saying Love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough Now this old heart of mine Is beating out of time Telling me it's time to stop living rough Now that you've gone away I think you were wrong to say That love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough Love don't mean enough

about

FIERCE MERCY is an epic, cinematic step forward from singer-songwriter Colin Hay, most beloved for his intimate, confessional live shows but most widely known for being an influential and celebrated frontman. The range of artists who have chosen to cite him as a muse or who have found themselves on stage with him in the past year spans the genre landscape from heavy metal, to Americana, to Cuban rhythms and beyond. His inclusion as a playlist favorite from the likes of Metallica to The Lumineers reflects his continuing relevance and broad appeal.

Recorded in both Los Angeles and Nashville and mixed by Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White) and Gordon Hammond (Buddy Miller, Don Williams), FIERCE MERCY explores themes of love and loss, mortality, and even the odd UFO sighting, but always with the singular perspective and insightful wit that define Hay’s work. He has created a new classic in his impressive repertoire (this is his 13th solo release), using a palette of pop songcraft, Americana flourishes, and soundtrack-ready strings. FIERCE MERCY is animated by its pensive, honest, and impassioned lyrics, and, Hay adds, by a sense of urgency felt deeply in the song “The Last to Know,” which introduces the album’s title concept of “fierce mercy.” Guest musicians include guitarists Audley Freed (Sheryl Crow, the Black Crowes, the Dixie Chicks) and Doug Lancio (John Hiatt), pedal steel guitarist and organist Jim Hoke (Iris Dement, Don Henley, Darius Rucker), Compass co-founder Alison Brown (banjo), bassist Yosmel Montejo, drummer Charlie Paxson, keyboardists Fred Kron and Jeff Babko, vocalist Cecilia Noël, and guitarist/tres player San Miguel Perez.
